First of all, you NEED to join the moundmakers and talk to holy knight Hodrick, and not follow Sirris' questline, if possible just offer a pale tongue to Rosaria right away just to prevent any mistakes. Go through his chat until the point he says the pit is for hollows and whatnot, then leave. Open main doors at Cathedral of the Deep. Talk to Siegward in the well.
